All Chalkers Crossing wines are processed at their winery just north of Young. Chalkers Crossing winemaker, Celine Rousseau, was born in France, studied in Paris, and trained in Bordeaux. She gained experience in Bordeaux, Champange, St Emilion and Languedoc in France, and in the Margaret River and Perth Hills in Western Australia before coming to the Hilltops Region in 2000 for the first Chalkers Crossing vintage. Take a tour of this award winning modern winery, and enjoy tasting the premium cool climate wines produced with grapes sourced from the Hilltops region. Chalker's Crossing are open from Monday to Thursday and on Friday by appointment. Groups welcome.

In 2004, locals to Young, Kevin and Vicki introduced Poppa's Fudge and Jam Factory to their existing gift ware business. It proved to be extremely popular with locals and visitors alike, drawing many people from near and far to sample the delicate fudge and confectionary. Poppa's is open seven days a week offering guests a wide range of locally and freshly made jams and chutneys. For the sweet toothed there is a huge range of delicate chocolates and tempting lollies as well as their well known freshly made fudge. All the fudges, jams and chutneys from Poppas Fudge Factory are made in store from fresh produce. Poppa's can also organise catering for 300 people; for morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch. Coaches are welcome.

Lambing Flat Folk Museum is located within the former Young Public School building, built in 1883. The museum is full of artefacts and memorabilia relating to Young's history. Visitors can browse at their leisure through the five main display areas. From the historically significant 'Roll-Up Banner' carried by the miners during the anti-Chinese riots of June 1886, items from the gold rush era, items from local dentists, barbers, hairdressers, World War One and World War Two, and the early establishment of Young.

Dunkell Dairy is a small commercial goat milk dairy that is situated two kilometres from Young's town centre. Their Natural Goats Milk Soaps are made on-site and are sold at various places around town. With stud and occasional goat sales available there is also the option of meeting the goats and milking demonstrations. Kids or baby goats are usually available to view in the spring with the opportunity to bottle feed them at certain times of year.

Buses and coach groups welcome, please make a booking. Ballinaclash shed shop sells a large range of products including sun ripened stone fruit in season. Ballinaclash jams include cherry, apricot, fig, quince and strawberry. They also stock a range of sauces, honey, prunes and a variety of other local produce. All the jams and sauces are made from fruit grown on Ballinaclash orchard. The shed shop also stocks a large variety of cold drinks, Ballinaclash wines and cherry reserve.

The Lambing Flat Chinese Tribute Gardens are located at the Chinaman's Dam reserve just four kilometres from the town centre. Now a well established garden set in a quiet, relaxing and picturesque site, the gardens are the perfect spot for a relaxing morning or afternoon with picnic facilities and barbecues. After crossing the bridge to the garden and passing the marble lion sculptures guarding the garden entrance, make your way to the garden viewing platform and sit and relax overlooking the garden and the Pool of Tranquillity. The development of the gardens began in 1992 and was established to recognise the contribution of the Chinese community to the settlement of Young in the 1860s, and to the ongoing contributions of the Chinese community to Australia as a Nation. Informative heritage signs provide information on the establishment of the gardens and the dam.

The town offers the amenities of an urban centre, award-winning coffee, scrumptious eateries near formal parks along the creek. Visit the Information Centre, in the elegant 1885 railway station building, to ask about the town’s Heritage Walks, combining exercise with interest for history-lovers. In 1831, Young’s first European settler, James White, built his homestead on a slope 15 kilometres north of the present town, on the advice of the local Wiradjuri people. The sheltered area where his ewes gave birth was known as the Lambing Flat. Gold was first discovered there in 1860. Thousands of miners and prospectors flocked to the field, and the town developed. Young’s museum, housed in the 1883 schoolhouse, tells the story of the 1861 riots against energetic Chinese miners. In recognition of the contribution of the Chinese community to the settlement of Young, the Chinese Tribute Garden were constructed near areas where the Chinese miners worked; this tranquil place of lakes and pretty walks is a popular picnic destination. Young is surrounded by orchards, vineyards, olive groves and strawberry farms. Through Spring, the orchards blossom. Young hosts the annual National Cherry Festival on the first full weekend of December. Venture into the orchards to pick your own or stop by one of the many shopfronts and road-side stalls to stock up and fill the car with the sweet aroma of cherries, and cherry pies. Later, plums, peaches, apricots and other stone fruit, fresh and in pies and preserves, are available. Wine connoisseurs, and others learning, can enjoy a tasting at one of the cellar doors.
